Saturday Night Rubik
first aired 11/26/1983
Reynaldo has decided to enter the school dance contest. The only problem is Reynaldo is kinda clumsy on the dance floor. And Jaws is trying to steal Cathy, his date to the dance, by playing lots of dirty tricks to make Reynaldo look even clumiser than he already is. Things are looking pretty bleak after Reynaldo makes a mess of a party at his potential date's house, thanks to Jaws. He's ready to give up, but Rubik, Lisa and Carlos encourage him to go it on his own, and Rubik gives him a little help with his dancing until he can get the hang of it. After a mishap or two, Rubik and the kids make it to the dance where Reynaldo wows the crowd, including Cathy, who starts to realize she's misjudged him. And somewhere along the line Rubik discovers that he also likes to dance, while Reynaldo discovers he's a pretty good dancer all on his own. video
Episode Fact - For this episode the song "What a Feeling" performed by Irene Cara for the hit movie Flashdance was rerecorded as an instrumental and used as Rubik and the kids practiced their dancing. It was also used in the big moment when Reynaldo proves his talents in the dance contest. At the time it was a very big and fairly recent hit from the previous summer (1983) when Flashdance had been a major success at the box-office.
