Lisa's tear

Rubik

In the Rubik the Amazing Cube universe, it's unclear whether there are any other ordinary Rubik's Cubes around. I suspect not, since many of the characters who encounter Rubik, even in his unsolved form, find him unusual and interesting. It's never made clear where Rubik comes from, and he never volunteers information about himself. But he's pretty happy to belong to three kids because their company suits his child-like sensibilities. Rubik likes to play and loves to eat junk food. He digs amusement parks and Saturday morning cartoons. He's also particularly given to mischief and tricks, which comes in handy when he's foiling bad men. A joyful little guy, Rubik has an infectious laugh, and is very vocal about what he likes and dislikes. Also a gentle sort, Rubik loves the company and closeness of people and gets frightneed when left alone or trapped inside his cube by getting misaligned.

Ruibik

Rubik's prime directive is to help, and his number one concern is the safety of his friends and justice in general. He wants very much to please his benefactors, but his heightened sense of morality causes him some pause when he is asked to do something against his better judgement. Rubik is good, not infalible, just good. He's a little temperamental and makes a lot of mistakes, often by using his powers when it would have been better not to. But his intentions are always pure, and Rubik is quick to apologize. For more about Rubik check out Rubik Facts.

Carlos finds Rubik

Carlos

Carlos is the middle child in the Rodriguez family. He's kind of a smart guy who's always got a good idea, whether it's a solution to a problem, an adventure or a practical joke. Carlos is a bright student and is as conscientious as one could expect a 6th grader to be. Carlos and Rubik are pretty close friends, and Rubik is usually somehow involved in helping him pull off his current plan, project, adventure or practical joke. Carlos not only admires his older brother Reynaldo, he is also a great encourgement to him. He's also just getting to the age where boys want to stand on their own, so sometimes he's guilty of blowing off his little sister Lisa. But in general Carlos is very close to Lisa and Reynaldo and gets along with them very well, not suffering from many of the typical middle child issues. Carlos is pretty certain of who he is, though he has been known to take decisive and exteme measures when he feels unappreciated.

Reynaldo and Rubik

Reynaldo

Reynaldo is funny and thoughtful, but lacking in self-confidence in some areas. He's very close to his younger brother and sister, never foresaking them for more "grown-up" pursuits. The three of them - and Rubik are constantly together. Reynaldo - despite his confidence issues - enjoys competitive sports and proving his strength and skill if ever given the chance, though his kind nature and humility often get in the way of his ambitious side. Sometimes his need to prove himself causes him to rush into situations wthout thinking. Often when things don't work out he's a little quick to give up, but Carlos, Lisa and Rubik keep urging him on. On the lighter side, Reynaldo is always good for a joke or the occasional physical humor moment.

Lisa and Rubik

Lisa

At age 7, Lisa is the youngest of the Rodriguez kids. She is ever faithful in Carlos, Reynaldo and Rubik to make everything right. She believes without a doubt in Reynaldo's bravery, Carlos's resourcefulness and Rubik's unconditional love and loyalty. Lisa is tough and outspoken for a seven-year-old, likely the result of having older brothers. She also has the most infuence over Rubik when he's asked to do something he's not sure about. She's definitely a master of turning on the little girl charm. And as influential as she is with Rubik, Lisa is equally protective of him. She rarely balks at adventure, but can be subject to seemingly random feminine concerns and fears.

Rudy

Rudy

Rudy is the Rodriguez children's very mild-mannered father. He must work in an office or some kind of university job because he's always wearing a jacket and tie. And his kids are so well-adjusted and respectful that he mostly just reminds them how proud he is of them. He supports them in all their academic and competitive efforts and seems to trust that no matter how late they come home, ususally from solving some crime, they're always where they should be. Like most cartoon parents, Rudy is rarely around, and never seems to notice that Carlos's cube is alive.

Maria Rodriguez

Maria

Marla is a loving mom, evidently a housewife, who dresses a little like June Cleaver. She's a little more stern with the kids when any, often Rubik-incited, household disaster occurs. I guess since Maria is always at home, she's always there when something crazy happens around the house. But she definitey has her sweet side. She's very cheerful and quick to praise the kids as well. But, much like Rudy, Maria has no clue what's up with the cube. All she knows is that the toy is Carlos's motivation for good behavior, as she has been known to impuund Rubik as retribution when Carlos is found shirking his reponsibilities.

Rubik prepares to give Sparky a bath

Sparky

OK, it's obvious that Sparky is jealous of Rubik. He was the family favorite until the little square guy who could talk came along and got all the attention. Sparky chases Rubik, barks at him, scrambles his colors, steals him and buries him any chance he gets. Sparky is actually a pretty likable and fairly docile pet who regularly gets in trouble, usually through no fault of his own. Rubik really makes an effort to do Sparky a good turn when he can, but he also can't resist the chance to play a trick on him. Rubik and sparky will likely always have a slightly strained friendship.

Other Friends

Grandma Ria and Rubik

Grandma Ria

Very rarely does Rubik get to know anyone outside of his immediate family. But when the Rodriguez family take a Christmas vacation down to Mexico to visit their grandma, everything changes. Grandma Ria is an active lady with a real zest for life. Rubik likes her immediately. She's always on the go, doing charitable work and planning special surprises for the village children. She's well known in town for her spunk and her big heart. It takes her no time to figure out Rubik's secret and she's happy to keep it.

Kimo and Rubik

Kimo

On the family vacation to Hawaii, Rubik and the kids meet Kimo, a Hawaian boy who rescues Rubik when the cube ends up scrambled and adrift in the ocean. Kimo is friendly and loves to talk about his culture and its legends, but he believes completely in the ancestral tales and is a little superstitious. This doesn't stop the Rodriguez kids from talking him into taking them into a haunted volcano one night. But, on the way up the mountain, Kimo trips and falls, and discovers Rubik's powers as the cube returns the favor by rescuing him.
